UNSOLICITED ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS
REGARDING ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO THEM
BY ASU CAREER SERVICES...

11/28/2005

Dear Career Services,

Thanks you so much for the services that you provide.  I did get a job.  This is the second position that I have gotten through your Smoke Signal job postings.  I appreciate your help so very much.

Sincerely Yours,

Paula Gazaway (Aug. 2003 Graduate - Finance)

As many novice teachers are, I too was overwhelmed with the thought of graduating and trying to find the "right" location for me to teach. I'll never forget Dr. Vickers coming in and sharing interview tips and sample resumes to guide us through this exciting and scary process of going out into the world and sharing our newfound knowledge. What I didn't realize until I read over the sample interview questions (and had my family quiz me as potential school personnel committees) was that Dr. Vickers had given each of us the best tool possible for being prepared and confident when interviewing. I can say that with every interview I have been on, these questions have been a tool that has helped me to have my "pick" of job locations. Dr. Vickers cares and assists students in finding the best job, but also stresses doing the best job possible for your employer. This program is an asset to the ASU campus, its students, and its alumni. Thanks again, Dr. Vickers, and may your guidance benefit others as it has for me.

Dr. Vickers,

I am not sure if you remember me because it has been awhile since we last talked, but you helped me a great deal with my graduate school application. I just wanted to let you know that I was accepted to Vanderbilt! I will be starting in the Spring and I am receiving a full tuition scholarship and a monthly stipend. I just wanted to let you know how everything turn out and say thank you again for all of your help.

Have a wonderful day!

Dr. Vickers,

Last year you were kind to offer your assistance when I was job hunting.  You helped me create a resume to catch the eyes of many.  I have had much interest in my resume/qualifications.  In most cases the professionals wanted me to relocate but I choose to remain in Jonesboro.

The amount of jobs in the NE Arkansas were very limited last year when I was looking.  This year I was again laid off due to lack of business.  I found there was more jobs to interview for this year because in 1/3 the time I received twice the interviews.  I believe the first class resume helped very much along with last years preparation for job hunting.  I did modify the resume last year to eliminate the possibility that someone could put an age on me by the content. Also, I added a section for accomplishments.

Fact, recently a professional recruiter when out of her way to pay a special compliment to my resume.  She stated that in over 30 years of recruiting it was one of the best she had seen.  Of course when she forwarded it to the company she wanted to connect to me, I was offered an interview.  I turned the interview down because I had just taken a job 4 days earlier.

Thanks,
Frank Bradley (December 1994 Graduate - Engineering)

Dr. Vickers,

I just wanted to thank you again for your help and numerous revisions of my resume about 1.5 years ago.  I was told Monday by a VP of a company that I had one of the best resumes and was one of the best interviewers he had ever seen.  Also, just last night, I got a call from a top dog scientist out of Maryland needing a manager at one of his new satellite offices in Arkansas.  He kept on saying throughout the phone interview, “I just look at your resume and see what kind of person you are and that you would be a good fit for us”  I will keep you updated on the next chapter of my career in the next few weeks.

Thanks for all of your help.

Ms. Walton,

Thank you for sending me in the info on the openings at the new Home Depot in Jonesboro.  I submitted my application when I received your email and got a call from their management on Tues.  I had a very positive interview on Wednesday and hope I will hear some good news in the next couple of weeks.  Although I have hoped for a position in information technology to make full use of my MIS degree, I am very impressed with and excited about the prospects available at Home Depot.  Being in Jonesboro would also allow me to start on my grad work at ASU.  Thanks again for keeping me informed.

Please keep me in mind again!

Sincerely,
Chris Cole

Mr. Vickers,

I'm writing to say thank you to Career Services.  While I was in Finland finishing my college (Fall of 2002) I sent my resume out to many companies and registered with many job search/resume posting websites (Monster.com, Jobs.com, ect.) with NO luck.  But two weeks before coming back to America I got an email from a company in Jonesboro (SMA) offering me a job. SMA found out about me through ASU career services and was very impressed with my resume. I have been employed by SMA as a Database Analyst for about 3 weeks now. SMA is a great place to work and I REALLY love my job!  I would feel guilty if I never contacted career services and expressed my gratitude. So again I say thank you!

Dr. Vickers,

Hi, you helped me with my resume a few months ago and just wanted to give you an update on my situation.  I have been working for the FDA doing cancer research at NCTR in Pine Bluff the last nine weeks.  A few weeks ago I heard of a toxicological firm in Little Rock and got a referral to one of the PhD's that work there.  I wore my suit and took my resume with me.  I intended on only visiting and wanted to know what their firm did and if they liked what they did.  See, I am interested in getting a PhD and wanted to look into all that I could do with a higher degree in toxicology.  Midway through they started interviewing me and asking me questions like, "would you consider working for us?"  Long story short, I went through two more interviews and the president of the company was at the third one.  After about 30 minutes of talking, he left for 20 minutes and came back.  He said they are not looking for anyone right now nor had they have any real openings.  However, we can't afford to let a guy like you go with all of your credentials, so "we offer you a place of employment."  I was thrilled and is an excellent example of effective networking and just being and looking professional.  I appreciate all of your help last spring.  When I went to the interviews I used the literature you gave me on interviewing and presenting myself.  It went very well.  Have a good day.

Sincerely,
Chris Hutts
